Castinggg is a fabrication studio specializing in cast acrylic resin works for contemporary art and design. We collaborate with artists, galleries, and designers to produce sculptural and functional objects through precise, high-quality fabrication. Our work requires a strong balance between design sensitivity and hands-on production.

Role Overview

We are seeking a CNC Operator & 3D Designer to support both the design development and production sides of the studio. This role sits at the intersection of client coordination, digital modeling, and hands-on fabrication.

The position requires a high level of precision, focus, and responsibility, as well as comfort working directly in the workshop and assisting with physical production and making.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Client Coordination

  • Communicate with artists, designers, and clients regarding technical aspects of their designs
  • Review, edit, and prepare 2D and 3D files for production
  • Create new drawings and models when required, based on client input and production needs
  • Translate design intent into fabrication-ready files

3D Modeling & Drafting

  • Develop and edit 2D drawings and 3D models using Rhino and AutoCAD
  • Prepare CNC-ready files with attention to tolerances, material behavior, and production constraints
  • Coordinate closely with the production team to resolve technical challenges

CNC Operation & Production

  • Operate CNC machines for fabrication and mold production
  • Set up jobs, select appropriate tooling, and monitor machining processes
  • Ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency of output

Hands-on Shop & Production Support

  • Assist with shop-based production and making, including preparation, assembly, finishing, and cleanup
  • Support the production team during fabrication processes as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment

Machine Maintenance & Inventory

  • Perform regular CNC maintenance and basic troubleshooting
  • Maintain inventory of CNC tooling (bits, cutters, consumables)
  • Track usage and coordinate reorders in collaboration with studio operations

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Studio Production Manager and fabrication team
  • Contribute to improving workflows, tooling, and production methods

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Rhino and AutoCAD (required)
  • Experience operating CNC machines (highly preferred)
  • Basic shop and hands-on production experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highly focused, organized, and reliable
  • Comfortable working in a fabrication studio environment
